One of the seaside towns in Kent County is Ramsgate. More specifically, it is located on the Isle of Thanet, which is why it has become a maritime city. It was one of the most successful seaside villages of the nineteenth century and was even a member of the old Cinque Harbor confederation.
There are many ways to reach the city, but it is advisable to take the train and arrive at its classic train station. Of course, you can take one of the ferries that stop at busy Ramsgate Harbour.
One of the city’s main attractions is Pegwell Bay in Kent. Ramsgate Main Sands has a sandy beach that is approximately 250 meters long. In addition, they have a program called Beach in Reach, which provides beach wheelchairs and toilets for people with disabilities.
If you enjoy bird watching or simply enjoying a quiet day, you can head to Pegwell Bay. It consists of sea cliffs and bays where many shorebirds love to frolic.
Because it’s close to the water, it just means it has a really beautiful marina. There, you can take a cruise that can take you around the coastline. At night, the marina transforms into a romantic sight of lights and music from the pubs and restaurants lining the bay.
An interesting attraction in this city is the replica of the Viking ship Hugin which sailed from Denmark to Thanet in 1949. It was built as a memorial to the long history of the Vikings in England. You can also visit the Italianate Greenhouse which was built in the nineteenth century.
Another place is Pugin’s Grange, which was also built in the 19th century. The owner is also the architect Augustus Pugin. When the Landmark Trust has restored it, it becomes open for the holidays.
